Pulp Fiction Bible Verse Misspelled Tattoo
O misspellings…how I love thee…let me the count the ways…or in this case the number of them. When getting a tattoo containing words the first thing you need to make sure of before the inking begins is to double check that everything is spelled correctly. Srsly. Everything. No wait, triple check it. This will be on your body for life folks. There really is no excuse for having a misspelling even with a large body of text and especially when you copy it down from a published material that is already spell checked…like…oh I dont know…the Bible! The misspelled words are bad enough, but to add in a terrible spacing and ink job on top of it is really just too much fail to comprehend. You’ll recognize this Bible verse from Ezekiel (even through the misspelled words) as it was recited in a very famous scene by Samuel Jackson from the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction.
It’s almost like a Where’s Waldo or one of those photo hunt video games in bars. How many misspelled words can you find in this tattoo?
Thank you to Your Tattoo Sucks fan Teddy for sending this one in.

Also, this is not a real bible verse. It was made up by Tarantino based on a handful of lines in a handful of chapters.

I spotted these, not counting all the random capitalizations: shepards, vally, brothers (should have apostrophe), upon-thee (shouldn’t have hyphen), vengance (twice), attemp. “Inequities” is borderline because it’s a real word meaning injustice, but the word “iniquities” (meaning sin) would make more sense in that context. In the movie, though, I remember that Sam Jackson actually said “inequities” so that may just be a mistake by Tarantino/Jackson that he’s faithfully transcribed onto his body. Too bad you hardly ever see full-time proofreaders working at tattoo parlors.

Jules’ speech from Ezekiel 25:17:
‘The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.’

Only the last two sentences is the actual Bible verse. The rest of it was just made up for the movie.

Check out the opening scene of “The Bodygaurd” starring Sonny Chiba. Tarantino is a huge Sonny Chiba fan, this is where the “verse” came from

Close, bryce. But he said: “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”

For all those who don’t know, Tarantino actually took the near-identical verse from the American re-make of Karate Kiba, where at the beginning of the movie the following quote appears: “The path of the righteous man and defender is beset on all sides by the iniquity of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the father of lost children. And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious anger, who poison and destroy my brothers; and they shall know that I am Chiba the Bodyguard when I shall lay my vengeance upon them!”
